  • Small, Colorful Beauties: These pens come in a range of bright, cheerful colors that make them a joy to use and perfect for adding a pop of color to your lettering projects.

  • High Performance: Despite their size, these pens deliver excellent performance. The ink flows smoothly, and the brush tips provide great control, and clean curves.

  • Good Design: I love their design not only for its vibrant, eye-catching aesthetic but also for the thoughtful functionality.

  • Rounder Brush Tip: The rounded brush tip offers a softer stroke than most small brush pens, making their thin strokes a touch more defined.

The Pentel Sign Brush Pens have been a personal favorite of mine since I first started exploring brush lettering, and over the years, they’ve remained a staple in my toolkit.

Unlike many small brush pens, Pentel Sign Brush offer a softer, rounder tip

Unlike many small brush pens, Pentel Sign Brush offer a softer, rounder tip that feels smooth on paper, making them especially well-suited for longer, more intricate lettering designs. What really sets them apart, though, is how beautifully they blend—something that can be hard to find in small brush pens. In this review, I’ll walk you through my experience with these pens and explain why they continue to be one of my go-to choices.

Initial Thoughts and Unboxing

The Pentel Arts Sign Pen Brush Tip typically comes in a convenient see-through plastic container, perfect for keeping your pens safely stored when not in use. The container is easy to open, and the clear design allows you to quickly see the colors of your pens at a glance.

The Sign Pens are fully colored, ensuring that no matter how they’re stored or held, the color is always visible. The design of the pen is much to my liking, with a minimalistic, no-clutter look. Each pen features just a small amount of text along the barrel, leaving most of it blank for a clean, simple appearance.

The pen’s shape is rounded, but with six subtle edges that create a slight hexagonal design. This thoughtful touch keeps the pen from easily rolling off the table, while also offering a comfortable grip.

The long lids are especially great when placed on the back of the pen while writing, making the pen longer and sturdier in the hand, which improves the overall writing experience.

Performance in Action

The Pentel Sign Brush Pens offer a smooth and satisfying experience when in use. The soft, round tip glides effortlessly across the paper, bending nicely without losing its shape. Compared to most other small brush pens, the tip of the Sign Brush Pens is slightly more rounded, which results in slightly thicker upstrokes. This subtle difference can add a bit more weight to your lettering, making it feel balanced and more substantial.

Another quality of the Sign Brush Pen is their durability. They are long-lasting and don’t fray easily, even after years of regular use. As smaller brush pens, they are ideal for detailed and extended lettering designs. I’ve used these pens on a variety of paper types, including less smooth surfaces, without any issues. The ink lays down evenly, and does not easily feather or bleed, regardless of the paper quality.
