What is Brush Pen Pressure?

Brush pen pressure refers to how much force you apply to the brush pen’s tip against the paper, leveraging the pen’s flexibility to create thick or thin strokes. The more pressure you apply, the thicker the stroke; less pressure creates thinner lines. Mastering pressure control is key to creating smooth, expressive brush lettering.

How to Apply Pressure with Brush Pens

With your brush pen in position, firmly press the broad side of the pen tip down against the paper. Brush pens are designed to handle this pressure without damage, thanks to their flexible tips. As you release the pressure, the pen tip will naturally spring back into shape, allowing you to switch smoothly between thick and thin strokes.

Tip: If your brush pen tip does not straighten out properly after releasing pressure, try rotating the pen slightly in your hand. This can help even out the wear on the tip and maintain its flexibility over time.
